Tesla Issues Stop-Sale on Cybertruck

Move came after reports of unintended acceleration.

Tesla has issued a stop sale of the Cybertruck to deal with a possible unintended acceleration issue.Tesla

Jalopnik reported this week that Tesla appears to have issued a stop sale on its controversial Cybertruck because the accelerator pedal can get stuck down. Apparently, the metal cover on the pedal can come loose and get wedged against the bulkhead, sticking the pedal open at full throttle. The Cybertruck will hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and weighs as much as a small moon, in case you had forgotten.

And, because Tesla, the information is based on reports from X (Elon Musk’s re-branded Twitter), Business Insider, and TikTok. Since yesterday, a number of other publications have carried the news. It’s a pretty big setback for the massively hyped Cybertruck and is just another controversy surrounding Tesla’s halo vehicle.

It should be noted that stop sales and recalls aren’t out of the ordinary for automakers, especially with new designs. But given the hype around the Cybertruck and the love-it-or-hate-it reactions it inspires, the issue is making the rounds. Either way, if you have one on order, it looks like you’ll be waiting a little longer to get it.
